Harrogate Grammar School
Bowman Riley Architects have been granted Planning Permission for their design of a new sixth form pavilion, learning theatre, teaching accommodation and dining room at Harrogate Grammar School.
The sixth form pavilion will provide modern and flexible accommodation which will include seven teaching rooms, a large practical area and a learning theatre with retractable seating.
The learning theatre is a flexible event space designed to meet the needs of the performing arts, media and 300 seat lecture theatre and also exhibitions and events. This space is provided with full AVIT (audio visual information technology facilities), stage lighting and storage. The teaching accommodation provides seven spaces on two floors plus a large practical area at ground floor level which may be divided into two smaller teaching areas when required.
In parallel to the sixth form expansion the project will also include an extension to the school's dining facilities. The much needed dining hall will be located immediately adjacent to existing facilities.
The dining hall is currently on site with Irwins Limited as contractors, and is due for completion on the 1st of September. The sixth form pavilion, learning theatre and teaching room block are currently out to tender and are expected to begin on site in September this year, with an anticipated completion date of August 2010.
Director Laurence Teeney says "Bowman Riley Architects are proud to be working with Harrogate Grammar School on this project. The school is one of the top educational providers in the area and we feel that our innovative design compliments this position."
